I bought a Canon 814XL 8mm movie camera – not here.
This was taken with my Minolta SRT-102 in 1977 on Tri-x ASA 400.

My Camera, My story

This is my current street photography bag.
It’s no Bilingham Hadley Bag but it is the bag that my mother used when she was in college to carry her things. Although now it isn’t for notebooks but for my camera.

That camera is a FED 5B which is the first camera I have ever bought. It came with the Industar-61 lens but I was lucky enough to borrow a Jupiter-12. I just fashioned a DIY viewfinder from an old point and shoot. It’s no Leica M3 w/ 35 summilux but it does what I want it to do so it is good enough [Although I will have that M3 in the future!!!]

Going one camera one lens per trip is the best thing I have done to improve my photographs. It slows you down, not making you worry about a lot of things, and it is very convenient for street shooting

My New Baby

Only 24 hours ago I was going mad posting on Flickr forums about advice for the best P&S I could get, saying that I wasn’t willing to spend money on lenses. Now suddenly, not in a small part due to the Jedi mind tricks of Bhalash, I am the owner of a 350D (bought for an insanely cheap price, due to the introduction of the 400D), with plans to buy this baby when my tax return comes through.

Oh the joys of impulse.

The problem with a short-focal-length camera lens (I was using an 18-55mm zoom on this occasion) is that you need to get reasonably close to the subject(s) in order to frame a good shot. And in a case like this, that closeness probably would have upset the babysitter (even though she was focused pretty intensely on her cellphone call) and distracted the little baby eating its lunchtime meal.

So I continued walking along, at a normal pace, holding the camera at hip level, pointing in the general direction of the scene. When I was a couple feet away, I snapped the picture without looking, and kept on going. The result certainly isn’t perfect, but it’s actually better than I expected; and if I thought to keep the lens opened up to its widest focal-length, I might not have cut off part of the babysitter’s head …

In any case, this is indeed a common street-scene in NYC, especially at lunchtime on a pleasant summer day. This babysitter appears to be somewhat younger than most of the ones I see, but the rest of the scene is pretty familiar…

This is part of an evolving photo-project, which will probably continue throughout the summer of 2008, and perhaps beyond: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan — between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.

I don’t like to intrude on people’s privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they’re still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what’s right in front of me.

I’ve also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting — literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I’ve learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture … after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it’s pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.

For the most part, I’ve deliberately avoided photographing bums, drunks, drunks, and crazy people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don’t want to be photographed, and I don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of them. I’m still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We’ll see how it goes …

The only other thing I’ve noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, *far* more people who are *not* so interesting. They’re probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I’ve photographed … but there was just nothing memorable about them.

This was taken at a children’s playground on Amsterday Avenue and 77th Street, where a water sprinkler was keeping several young children cool and wet in the hot summer afternoon…

قیچک یا غیژک یکی از سازهای زهی است که مانند کمانچه با آرشه نواخته می‌‌شود و یکی از سازهای موسیقی ایرانی است که قدمت بسیار زیادی دارد. این ساز از نظر نوازندگی شبیه به ویولن‌سل است.

ساز قیچک در استان سیستان و بلوچستان ایران نواخته می‌شده است. امروزه وزارت فرهنگ و هنر ایران این ساز را در شهرهای دیگر نیز رواج داده و سه گونه قیچک تکمیل‌تر به نام‌های قیچک سوپرانو (به طول ۵۶٫۵ سانتی‌متر)، قیچک آلتو (۶۳ سانتيمتر) و قیچک باس به همان نسبت بزرگ‌تر ساخته‌اند.

Music Tag Game.

Last night I came up with this idea. As far as I know, i’m the first person to start this. It’s just like every other tag game except instead of facts or whatever, you can choose 5 or more unknown/unsigned/any band you love that you think deserve more spotlight. Then write them down like you would the facts. Then tag atleast 5 other people to do the same.

Here’s the details/rules step by step:
- Your picture must somehow be music related. Wether it’s you holding up a drawing of a music note or something more creative.
- List atleast 5 bands/artists. You can do more if you’d like. Make sure to link the band to it’s myspace, purevolume, itunes page or even imeem.
- Pick atleast 5 people to tag and do the same. You can choose more.
- Join and add your picture to the group pool Music Tag Game so other people can view your bands and your music related picture as well as you can view theirs.

Music Men

Hanging out at Johnny Appleseed Festival… the best part, by far, was how many people dressed up! This band of music makers were having a blast and getting quite the audience. They are playing the Fife, which isn’t the sort of instrument you hear about much these days.

Uno de los mejores diseños que he visto en Transformers recientemente y uno de los mejores de la película. La transformación es bastante compleja y divertida. El modo robot es excelente, super articulado y se puede poner en poses muy divertidas y el modo alterno es muy real. Hubiera preferido sin las llamas, pero igual no me molestan mucho.

En la foto aparece junto con Optimus Prime versión Classic Ultimate Battle, para comparación de tamaño y diseño.
